The ASUS K42J packs a plethora of powerful components, including a 2.26-GHz Core i5 430M CPU and Nvidia’s Optimus graphics-switching technology, in a 4.8-pound, 14-inch package. This $899 notebook turns in solid performance numbers and has some strong features, but competitors offer more bang for your buck–and look better doing it, too.

Build and Design:

The K42J has a traditional notebook design and shape similar to the previous generation ASUS K40IN. In other words, it looks like a fairly boring coffee brown notebook without much flare. The notebook features a mixture of matte black, semi-gloss brown and black and glossy brown and black plastics. All of the corners and edges are rounded to give the laptop a smoother look, and the textured touchpad and palm rests give the K42J a nice feel. The glossy screen lid features a subtle imprinted design that replicates the pattern used on the palm rests, but overall we’re talking about a very clean, simple laptop design.

The build quality of the K42JC-A1 is typical of most of the ASUS consumer-grade notebooks we’ve reviewed. The overall chassis strength is good with no specific areas of plastic flex or creaking sounds. The internal chassis frame resists pressure quite well and the screen hinges provide a good balance of resistance (not too firm and not too loose). The back of the screen lid does flex under heavy pressure, but even when significant pressure is applied to the back of the screen there are no obvious ripples or distortions on the screen.

The bottom of the notebook includes two access plates for the RAM and the hard drive. ASUS engineers obviously understand that most consumers buying a mainstream notebook like this won’t upgrade much (if anything) beyond the RAM and hard drive. Yes, we usually like to have more access to the notebook’s internals, but the majority of the people who buy this laptop probably won’t care.

Display and Sound:

The glossy 14-inch, 1366 x 768-pixel screen produced reasonably bright images and sharp colors, but viewing angles left something to be desired. In a room with a light source behind us, we saw a ton of reflections in the screen when we were sitting at even a 30-degree angle to the left or right. When watching videos, image	s washed out significantly at 45 degrees to the left or right.

The notebook was more than capable of playing back high-definition video. We effortlessly streamed a 720p episode of Fringe from Fox.com and played both a 720p and a 1080p WMV file from Microsoft’s HD Showcase without issue. However, when playing a DVD of Dark City, we noticed lots of noise in shadows and other dark areas.

One positive feature of the K42J is its bundled Splendid Utility which allows users to select different color modes, including a special Theater mode that darkens images for a movie-friendly look; it made our video clips look a bit more attractive. You can even adjust the red, green, and blue color temperatures to create your own custom color profiles. And you can assign any of the modes to hot keys for quick switching.

The K42J’s speakers are nothing to write home about. When we tried listening to both a rock tune, “My Delirium” by Ladyhawke, and a jazz standard, “Morning Dance” by Spyro Gyra, the sound wasn’t tinny, but it fell completely flat; all the instruments and vocals seemed to blend together, sounding very much like a mono clock radio. Even at maximum volume, the output wasn’t loud enough.

Keyboard and Touchpad:

The full-size keyboard on the K42J full-size keyboard features Chiclet-style keys that are responsive and provide a little extra spacing to prevent typos. The keys are large and flat and have a matte texture, which may wear over time. There is no noticeable flex unless you apply significant pressure to the keys in the middle of the board. A individual key presses are quiet with the softest possible “click-clack” noise while typing; making it nice for taking notes in a classroom or office meeting room. The keyboard lacks dedicated multimedia keys, but the arrow keys double as media keys when used with the function key.

The ELAN touchpad is a mixture of good and bad. The textured surface provides excellent traction for your fingertips but the touchpad suffers from obvious lag. This is a multi-touch touchpad with customizable gestures, but the mediocre responsiveness makes using the touchpad less than ideal. The lack of a dedicated scroll zone is also annoying. The touchpad buttons have very shallow feedback with loud clicks when you press the buttons.

Ports and Webcam:

The K42J has a reasonable collection of ports. On the right side are a USB port and an Ethernet connection. On the left are a VGA port, HDMI-out, a single audio in/out port, and two more USB ports (for a total of three). The front lip houses a 5-in-1 memory card reader.

The 0.3-megapixel webcam produced grainy, noisy images with washed out colors, both when streaming video on Skype or capturing images with ASUS’s bundled LifeFrame software. However, to the camera’s credit, it was able to pick up our face in a low-light setting even though the overall picture quality was still pretty bad (pictured).

Battery Life and Wi-Fi:

The K42J’s short battery life is its biggest weakness. Even though it has power-saving Optimus technology, the notebook lasted only 3 hours and 21 minutes on the LAPTOP Battery Test, which involves continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi. That’s 27 minutes below the category average, and over an hour shorter than the Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 (4:38) and HP Pavilion dm4 (4:56).

The K42J’s Atheros AR9285 802.11n wireless card provided strong transfer rates of 36.4 Mbps and 23.5 Mbps at distances of 15 and 50 feet from the router. The 15-foot score was about on par with the IdeaPad Y460 (35.5 Mbps) and the Toshiba Satellite E205 (36.2 Mbps), just slightly behind the HP Pavilion dm4 (39.4 Mbps), and way ahead of the Dell Inspiron 14R (21.6 Mbps). The 50-foot score was slightly better than all its direct competitors, including the E205 (20.5 Mbps), IdeaPad Y460 (19.8 Mbps), the Pavilion dm4 (19.7 Mbps), and the Inspiron 14R (16.4 Mbps).

As instant communication becomes more vital in today’s business world, advanced office phone systems have become an integral part in the success of small businesses. Contrary to popular belief, small to medium-sized businesses don’t have to spend a fortune on a system that delivers advanced features usually reserved for large corporations. Here’s how to get exactly the office phone system you want without breaking the bank.

1.	Do your homework. It sounds painfully obvious but many small businesses will lock into a long-term contract with a provider without fully knowing what they are getting and what they will be expected to pay. Fully research all your options before signing the dotted line.

2.	Prioritize your must-have features. By knowing which features you need and which ones you can do without, you can select a cost-effective phone system that will meet your business’s communication needs. Having additional features that you never use will only drive your costs up.

3.	Beware of overage fees. Some companies incur steep overage fees if you exceed the number of minutes allotted in your plan. Shop around for providers with plans that allow you to cap minutes in order to avoid such fees.

4.	Itemize potential costs. When researching prospective office phone systems and providers, have a customer service rep itemize the total cost, including startup fees and recurring monthly charges so you know exactly what you are paying for and how much. In a similar vein, find out how bills are called (e.g. in two minute increments, ten second increments, etc.).

5.	Check into long distance calling fees. If your business regularly uses long distance calling to place calls abroad, opt for a provider who includes long distance calling in your plan or offers volume discounts on long distance calls.

6.	Prior to making a decision, ask for a demo, which can give you a comprehensive overview of what a particular office phone system entails, how well it performs, and whether or not it can meet your business calling needs.

7.	Look for providers who offer a risk-free trial or money back guarantee. Not only is such an offering indicative of a reputable company, most importantly it gives you the chance to test out an office phone system to see if it’s right for your business without any financial obligations.

A HD TV set really changes your viewing amusement with high color definition, better picture quality and superior sound. As with buying any other thing, when you want to buy a HD TV, what you need is proper information about its features, different models available in the market and their specifications.

Currently there are many brands available in the market like Sony, Samsung, LG and Phillips. Each has something particular associated with its brand.

Generally the top selling brand is Samsung, because of its economic price when compared to others. The money that you spent on buying a Samsung HDTV set is worth it.

When it comes to choosing a camera, there are two types you can choose from. It mainly depends on if you want to practice traditional photography or modern photography. Presently, you can choose between a manual camera and a digital camera.
Here are a few tips you will require in order to purchase your camera, be it digital or manual.

Before buying a camera, you need to decide whether you want to practice photography as a hobby or just to pass your time. If you are serious about photography, go for a single lens reflex or a SLR camera. The main difference between a normal camera and an SLR is that the latter gives you the option of adjusting the aperture and the shutter speed. Though this makes the pictures a little more difficult to capture, it can give great results. If you have enough patience, you can create any picture you wish to.

Make sure you consult a photographer and read enough photo magazine reviews. Read and research popular photography magazines to see what their evaluation on SLR cameras is. Make sure you are aware of the various cameras that are available today.
Reading also gives you a few good ideas. It can help you decide whether you want a camera for taking close up shots or one with a flash system and the depth of field that you would prefer.

Camera prices vary, especially when it comes to SLR cameras. The cameras at the lower end are manually operated and give options for automatic aperture settings. The relatively expensive cameras have all these features and more. They are also programmable and have the ability to measure the flash via the camera lens as well as provide greater shutter speed and aperture.
If you are ready to select a camera for purchase, hold the camera, experiment with it, look through it and familiarize yourself with it. Check the focus of the camera. See if you find the controls comfortable and if you find the price suitable. Your manual camera should suite your needs as well as your budget.

If you intend on buying a digital camera, there are a few tips you should follow in order to select the best camera for you.
As with the manual camera, set a budget within which you intend on buying your digital camera. Ensure that you do not spend way above your means. You should be realistic in addition to being open-minded. A camera that is inexpensive need not be low end and an expensive camera need not be high end. Refurbished SLR digital cameras are cheaper than the new ones and have many more features that are not present in the newer versions.

Honestly gauge how experienced you really are at photography and how much skill and potential you possess. If you are amateur, it is perhaps best to settle for a point and shoot camera. But if you intend on expanding your knowledge and experience, choose a camera with many features, control and exposure.

As with the manual camera, you need to read various reviews on digital cameras. There are a number of websites that offer you extensive information on different models of digital cameras. They cater to the needs of both serious professionals as well as amateur hobbyists.

If you know what to look for, selecting a camera is a lot of fun and really easy. Whatever you purchase, make sure that it caters to your needs, requirements and tastes. Don’t just settle for whatever the store person tells you to settle for.

LCD television ratings are used in the LCD shopping process in order to make a final determination about LCD selection. With a plethora of high quality LCD manufacturers creating LCD televisions, consumers may seem besieged by the uncertain and somewhat intimidating LCD shopping enterprise.

With a vast selection coming from makers like Samsung, Toshiba, LG, Philips, Vizio, Sony, Panasonic, ViewSonic, Olevia, Hitachi, Westinghouse, Sanyo, Polaroid, Magnavox, Envision and Mitsubishi, it is not surprising that the consumer might not even know where to begin when seeking a supreme quality LCD television. This is where LCD television ratings can prove amazingly useful. LCD television ratings and assessments make it easy on the consumer to know precisely how one LCD TV varies from another. LCD television ratings and reviews will commonly make mention of the various features every LCD TV under assessment has to offer.

For example, an article presenting LCD television ratings might examine what types of tuners are integrated into the LCD TV housing, what the resolution of the LCD television set is, what the aspect ratio is in the set, and if the LCD television offering supplies the consumer with personalized setting options. LCD television ratings also assess the adaptability of color temperatures, the contrast ratio, the inputs that the device contains, as well as the quality of the sound system and output offerings. A full examination of available specs through LCD television ratings and assessments gives consumers a full understanding of what beneficial attributes are assigned to various LCD TVs.

Scanning various reviews of the latest LCD TVs gives the consumer instant access to the latest LCD television ratings. Understanding the benefits assigned to various LCD purchases, the consumer can then make an empowered LCD TV buying decision, and can feel less overwhelmed by the entire process. The reviews on LCD TV selections can help consumers sift through all the technical jargon and to get to the heart of the matter: what an LCD has to offer. Such reviews can also allow the consumer to assess whether or not the LCD TV in question is really worth the cost associated with the set as well.

Digital cameras, which employ reusable memory cards instead of film, give you far more creative control than film cameras can. With a digital camera, you can transfer shots to your computer, then crop, adjust color and contrast, and add textures and other special effects. Final results can be made into cards or T-shirts, or sent via e-mail, all using the software that usually comes with the camera. You can make prints on a color inkjet printer, or by dropping off the memory card at one of a growing number of photofinishers. You can upload the file to a photo-sharing Web site for storage, viewing, and sharing with others.

Like camcorders, digital cameras have LCD viewers. Some camcorders can be used to take still pictures, but a typical camcorder’s
resolution is no match for a good still camera’s.

WHAT’S AVAILABLE

The leading brands are Canon, Fujifilm, HP, Kodak, Olympus, and Sony; other brands come from consumer-electronics, computer, and traditional camera and film companies.

Digital cameras are categorized by how many pixels, or picture elements, the image sensor contains. One megapixel equals 1 million picture elements. A 3-megapixel camera can make excellent 8×10s and pleasing 11×14s. There are also 4- to 8-megapixel models, including point-and-shoot ones; these are well suited for making larger prints or for maintaining sharpness if you want to use only a portion of the original image. Professional Digital cameras use as many as 14 megapixels.

Price range: $200 to $400 for 3 megapixels; $250 to $400 for 4 and 5 megapixels; $300 to $1,000 for 6 to 8 megapixels.

IMPORTANT FEATURES

Most Digital cameras are highly automated, with features such as automatic exposure control (which manages the shutter speed, aperture, or both according to available light) and autofocus.

Instead of film, digital cameras typically record their shots onto flash-memory cards. CompactFlash and SecureDigital (SD) are the most widely used. Once quite expensive, such cards have tumbled in price–a 128-megabyte card can now cost less than $50. Other types of memory cards used by cameras include Memory Stick, Smart Media and xD-picture card. A few cameras, mainly some Sony models, use 3 1/4-inch CD-R or CD-RW discs.

To save images, you transfer them to a computer, typically by connecting the camera to the computer’s USB or FireWire port or inserting the memory card into a special reader. Some printers can take memory cards and make prints without putting the images on a computer first. Image-handling software, such as Adobe Photoshop Elements, Jasc Paint Shop, Microsoft Picture It, and ACDSee, lets you size, touch up, and crop digital images using your computer. Most digital cameras work with both Windows and Macintosh machines.

The file format commonly used for photos is JPEG, which is a compressed format. Some cameras can save photos in uncompressed TIFF format, but this setting yields enormous files. Other high-end cameras have a RAW file format, which yields the image data with no processing from the camera.

Digital cameras typically have both an optical viewfinder and a small color LCD viewer. LCD viewers are very accurate in framing the actual image you get–better than most of the optical viewfinders–but they use more battery power and may be hard to see in bright sunlight. You can also view shots you’ve already taken on the LCD viewer. Many digital cameras provide a video output, so you can view your pictures on a TV set.

Certain cameras let you record an audio clip with a picture. But these clips use additional storage space. Some allow you to record limited video, but the frame rate is slow and the resolution poor.

A zoom lens provides flexibility in framing shots and closes the distance between you and your subject–ideal if you want to quickly switch to a close shot. The typical 3x zoom on mainstream cameras goes from a moderately wide-angle view (35mm) to moderate telephoto (105mm). You can find cameras with extended zoom ranges between 8x and 12x, giving added versatility for outdoor photography. Other new cameras go down to 24 or 28 mm at the wide-angle end, making it easier to take in an entire scene in close quarters, such as a crowded party.

Optical zooms are superior to digital zooms, which magnify the center of the frame without actually increasing picture detail, resulting in a somewhat coarser view.

Sensors in digital cameras are typically about as light-sensitive as ISO 100 film, though some let you increase that setting. (At ISO 100, you’ll likely need to use a flash indoors and in low outdoor light. ) A camera’s flash range tells you how far from the camera the flash will provide proper exposure: If the subject is out of range, you’ll know to close the distance. But digital cameras can tolerate some underexposure before the image suffers noticeably.

Red-eye reduction shines a light toward your subject just before the main flash. (A camera whose flash unit is farther from the lens reduces the risk of red eye. Computer editing of the image may also correct red eye. ) With automatic flash mode, the camera fires the flash whenever the light entering the camera registers as insufficient. A few new cameras have built-in red-eye correction capability.

Some cameras that have powerful telephoto lenses now come with image stabilizers. These compensate for camera shake, letting you use a slower shutter speed than you otherwise could for following movement. But an image stabilizer won’t compensate for the motion of subjects.

Most new 6- to 8-megapixel cameras come with full manual controls, including independent controls for shutter and aperture. That gives serious shutterbugs control over depth of field, shooting action, or shooting scene with tricky lighting.

HOW TO CHOOSE

The first step is to determine how you will use the camera most of the time. Consider these two questions:

How much flexibility to enlarge images do you need? If you mainly want to make 4×6 snapshots, a camera with a 3- or 4-megapixel resolution will be fine. Such a camera will also make an 8×10 print of an entire image without alteration that looks as sharp as one from a 6- or 8-megapixel model. But to enlarge the image more or enlarge only part of it, you’ll want a 6- to 8-megapixel camera.

How much control do you want over exposure and composition? Cameras meant for automatic point-and-shoot photos, with a 3x-zoom lens, will serve snap shooters as well as dedicate hobbyists much of the time. The full-featured cameras in the 6- to 8-megapixel range offer capabilities that more-dedicated photographers will want to have. Two of the more important capabilities are a zoom range of 5x to 10x or more, which lets you bring distant outdoor subjects close and also lets you shoot candid portraits without getting right in your subject’s face, and a full complement of manual controls that you determine the shutter speed and lens opening.

Once you’ve established the performance priorities that you need from a camera, you can narrow your choices further by considering these convenience factors:

Size and weight. The smallest, lightest models aren’t necessarily inexpensive 3-megapixel cameras. And the biggest and heaviest aren’t necessarily found at the high end. If possible, try cameras at the store before you buy. That way, you’ll know which one fits you hand best and which can be securely gripped. In our tests, we have found that some of the smallest don’t leave much room even for small fingers.

Battery type and life. All digital cameras can run on rechargeable batteries of one of two types: an expensive battery pack or a set of AA batteries. In our tests of the cameras, neither battery type had a clear performance advantage. The best-performing cameras offer upward of 300 shots on a charge, while the worst manage only about 50. We think it’s more convenient to own a camera that accepts AA batteries. You can buy economical, rechargeable cells (plus a charger) and drop in a set of disposable lithium or alkaline batteries if the rechargeable run down in the middle of the day’s shooting.

Camera speed. With point-and-shoot cameras like the ones we tested, you must wait after each shot as the camera processes the image. Most models let you shoot an image every few seconds, but a few make you wait 5 seconds or more. They may frustrate you when you’re taking photos in sequence.

Your other cameras. If you’re adding a camera to your lineup or trading up to a more versatile model, look first for one that’s compatible with the other cameras. If it is, you can share memory cards and batteries. Designs within a camera brand line are often similar. So staying wit the brand you have lowers the learning curve on the new camera for family members who switch between cameras.

Technology is improving patient care and increasing revenue per bed and overall cost structures of hospitals. LCD screens are key contributors to cost improvement and improving overall “look and feel” of hospitals.

For example, the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is using LCD Information Display screens to improve patient flow and increase family member awareness about patient location. In any large hospital, a great deal of coordination is required to move patients through the operating facility efficiently and seamlessly, from the pre-operative through to the recovery areas. Which treatment rooms are available? Which patients are ready for surgery next? Has a procedure in the operating room been completed ahead of schedule? Tracking each patient and coordinating resources requires staff to have immediate access to patient case data, at any time.

The idea behind installing the LCD Information Display screens was to provide doctors, nurses and orderlies with better visual access to the operative status of each patient in its operating facility – without having to find a terminal and log in. The screens would provide a clear, continuously updated status list of each patient in the operating and treatment areas. These digital signs would tell staff which rooms are available, which patients are ready for transport, and what actions need to be taken for smooth operation of the facility. Patient safety and quality of care were also elevated with this solution Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in India is using LCD Information Display screens for medical imaging and collaborative medical diagnosis. The key needs for deploying LCD information display screens vs LCD TVs were picture quality, large size and no fan noise in the operating theatre room. Large LCD displays are also being deployed in hallways, waiting areas, nurse monitoring centres, and video imaging diagnostic centers. The display needs for these hospitals large screens are usually similar. Large LCD information displays are the technology of choice for large screens due to their low radiation emissions, low power usage compared to Plasma, increased ruggedness and high resolution.

Below we outline key needs of LCD screens for hospitals: LCD Information Display vs. TV

Price: Price is an important criterion however many hospitals, buy on price versus functionality important and length of usage. As a result they will buy an LCD TV rather than a LCD Information Display as they can find cheap LCD TVs. LCD TVs are not closed end boxes so they result in premature failure or desired functionality is lacking resulting in the LCD TV being replaced sooner than it should be.

Internet Connectivity: Increasingly patients are demanding Internet connectivity to their rooms and are willing to pay for such facility. LCD screens need to be equipped with computer inputs such as VGA, HDMI or DVI inputs. The computer inputs are available on LCD information displays and usually not available on LCD TVs though some new LCD TV models do not have this issue.

Reduced Biological Pollution, Ruggedness and 24×7 Device Operations: LCD screens for hospitals need to be rugged and closed. LCD Information Displays are rugged (vs. LCD TVs) as LCD Informational Displays are fan-less closed box units that can offer protection from dust and biological pollution, which is very important for hospitals. LCD Informational Displays are made for 24×7 operations while LCD TVs are made for limited hourly viewing in a day.

Network Connectivity: The network connectivity is required for remote monitoring of the various LCD devices. Be sure that the LCD screen has RS-232 and LAN network connectivity. Having this connectivity, alarms can be managed if an LCD screen is switched off or performing poorly. For example, an energy saving feature can be initiated so that when there is no signal, a power save mode is activated to reduce the brightness of the LCD backlight. No Sound or Tuning Capability in Individual LCD units: No need for internal TV speakers as sound is output through pillow speakers which control noise in the patient room and hallway by limiting individual TV volume. Individual TV tuners are not required as TVs channels are fed through cable tv tuners to provide better image and selection.

Picture Quality: Picture quality is an important criterion in hospitals. Select high definition LCD screens. High definition LCDs provide better picture resolution, better contrast ratio, high brightness, high colour reproduction and fast response time resulting in better picture clarity. Most new LCDs have 176° viewing angle and have non glare features for easy viewing in daylight. Check the viewing specifications to make sure that the LCD screen you are buying meets your quality needs. LCD display market is continuously evolving New LCD screen features are continuously emerging. Check with the LCD screen manufacturer to learn about new features.

Although the application of CCTV security have not changed very much over the past years, the tools and equipment have significantly. Cameras became smaller, cheaper and better, but the major breakthrough happened in recording equipment.

Therefore many customers shopping for complete CCTV monitoring and recording systems are confused by such a verity of available products. Goal of this article is to guide buyers toward best possible and most economical type of CCTV equipment, based on intended implementation and requirements.

Selecting the right cameras.
It is virtually impossible to describe all types of available ones in this short article. We will focus our attention on most popular and widely used camera types instead.
CCTV produce images using CMOS or CCD (Charge Couple Device) chips. Tiny, very low price CCTV cameras usually use CMOS technology, produce poor quality images and have very poor light sensitivity. Decent quality CCTV cameras use CCD technology. The size of the CCD chip is normally 1/4″, 1/3″ or 1/2″. As a rule of thumb, the larger the size, the higher the quality of the image produced and the higher the price. However, higher density 1/4″ and 1/3″ CCD chips can now produce as good an image as many 1/3″ or 1/2″ chips.

The number of TV lines in the security camera image is a measure of picture resolution (sharpness). The larger the number of TV lines, the better the resolution and hence, overall picture quality. Standard resolution camera may have 350-380 lines, over 400 TV Lines is generally considered good resolution while over 500 TV lines is considered high resolution. B/W chip cameras produce greater resolution and better light sensitivity, therefore suitable for use in dark areas where light conditions are poor most of the time.

On the other hand color cameras offer more realistic and natural picture.

CCTV cameras

Professional grade cameras.
Have box type body with the ability to use different types and size of lenses. Exchangeable lenses enable this camera, to monitor objects from virtually any distance. Although for indoor use, they can be used for outdoor when combined with weatherproof housing. They are considered to be the most flexible and widely used by professionals for commercial installations.

Bullet cameras
Bullet cameras are, as the name suggest contained inside bullet shaped housing.
Most bullet cameras are weatherproof and sealed without the ability to use different lenses. Great advantage of bullet camera is the small size and integrated design, some bullet cameras will even have infrared LED future built-in. simply LED light in infrared spectrum (not visible to human eye). This light will illuminate viewing area, making possible monitoring in complete darkness. This is great future, but it only works up to certain distance (usually between 10 and 50 ft. depending on model) Vary simple to install and estheticly designed, bullet cameras are great choice for residential and do-it-yourself installations where monitoring objects are within about 25ft from the camera location (with standard 3. 6mm lens).

Board Cameras
Board Cameras are basically fixed lens mounted on a circuit board. These cameras may be packaged in a small case (Mini Cameras) or dome (Mini Dome) or simply sold unpackaged, for mounting by the purchaser. Lenses in these are either of a normal industry aperture or a “pinhole” lens of very small aperture. Pinhole lens cameras are often called “spy” cameras and may be mounted in a concealed way for covert surveillance purposes. The most popular examples of covert board ones are smoke detector and motion detector cameras.
Since the lenses in board cameras are pre-mounted, have a fixed iris and are usually of a short focal length (i. e. wide angle), their flexibility of usefulness is limited. However, this type of camera can provide a low cost solution in the right situation, particularly in a home environment. We have shortly described most popular types of cameras, lets now discus, how and where they mite be used.
Professional types with C/CS mount lens attachment generally offer best performance and many important futures, like lens control output, Back Light Compensation and many more. . .
Distance from monitoring object to the camera is not an issue, that is why ability to select different lenses, based on location is so important. Installation is bit complicated and professional installation strongly recommended. We recommend this type of security cameras for commercial installations. Most Bullet cameras in comparison, do not offer high resolution and lens selection flexibility, but are likely to be weatherproof, some will have infrared light built-in and most of all they are relatively easy to implement. They usually come with 3. 6mm lens witch are considered to be suitable for most standard installations (good for covering small to medium size room or equivalent).
For larger rooms or longer distances, cameras with 6mm or higher lens may be required. They are great choice for any do-it-yourself installation.
Board cameras in contrast are widely used in covert camera installations, sometimes called Spy Cameras. Many are basically board ones with built-in transmitter. We are not going to go into wireless cameras right now, as this would be enough material for completely new article.
Board cameras are sold as plain circuit board, for integrating into hidden camera devices. They are also available in dome housing, as vary popular Dome Camera or integrated with Smoke Detector, Motion Detector, Exit Sign and so on. Most also come with 3. 6mm lens although some will allow lens to be replaced.
Over the time, most practical design has been Dome Camera with its aesthetic appearance it blends into surroundings, especially with drop down sealing, great for use in stores, lobbies, gas stations and other public places. Practical solution for covert installation are also, Motion and Smoke Detector cameras, they are absolutely not substitute for your security alarm or fire protection. They should always be selected based on the location of the camera (inside/outside), distance from the monitoring object, light condition and budget.

When shopping for security cameras, customers are faced with the fact that they will need to select one or another recording device.
The days of well-known CCTV time-lapse recorder are almost over.
Although some customers still prefer this old fashioned recording solution, it is well worth to invest some extra money to purchase a good quality digital video recorder (DVR). Digital recorder transfers analog camera video feed into format, and stores it on hard drive.

You are thinking about purchasing a wireless hidden camera but, like many people, are afraid of electronic products. You keep reading about words like “lux” and “camera resolution” and “line of sight” — do I really have to know what these mean?

And, isn’t the wireless hidden camera hard to install? The answer is NO and I’m going to tell you how easy it is to install and use your wireless hidden camera. I will also explain some of the “difficult” terms in plain, understandable English so you won’t be intimidated any more. The best thing about a wireless hidden camera is just that — it’s WIRELESS! You won’t have to run any wires through your walls or under your rug. These wireless cameras are called “hidden” because they are built into an existing everyday object that you see in your home or office. Most of these objects are functioning electrical appliances, e. g. clock radios, cordless phones, and even computer speakers. Each object contains a wireless camera. The camera will function as long as the object is plugged into the wall outlet. For example, even when you turn your radio off, the camera is still working! These objects look natural when plugged into the wall, so your camera remains hidden and unsuspected. Don’t forget — the object in which your camera is hidden is usually portable, e. g. clock radio. So even if you disconnect the plug from the wall — perhaps to move the object — you can still use your wireless camera with batteries. The batteries work for about 4-8 hours, so it’s best that you have another set handy or use a battery charger for a fresh supply.

You want to purchase a wireless surveillance camera system that is “Plug and Play. ” This means just what it says — plug it in and begin using it! Your wireless hidden camera comes with 2 main components: 1) a camera and a transmitter connected inside an everyday object; and 2) a receiver which is attached to your VCR or TV. That’s all there is to it — you’re now ready to record!Record what? There are unlimited uses for your wireless hidden camera. How about as a hidden nanny camera — you can watch your children while they are being cared for by their nanny or baby sitter. What about your mother or father who is getting up in years and needs special care. Wouldn’t it be great to know who’s on your property all the time or even at the door? And how about your children — you can keep an eye on your tots with your hidden nanny camera to make sure they don’t leave the house or property. And, now with your small security camera, you will know the real time your teens return home at night!By using wireless hidden cameras in the workplace, you will always be aware of what’s going on in your store, office and warehouse. Just set up a hidden camera to view your cash register, entrance and exit doors, loading dock, or just about anywhere. All this and much more can be viewed from your VCR tape or live on your TV. And, with special software, you can watch what’s going on in your home or business on your computer screen, even when you’re away. Should you choose a Black and White (B/W) or Color Camera? That is a personal choice that you should make. A Black and White camera does better as a low light wireless camera than a color camera because it has a lower lux. Color Cameras, however, would be more helpful to the police in identifying the burglar, shoplifter, assailant, etc. by giving a better description — for example, “the man with red hair in the green and yellow shirt.”

Finally, I promised to explain some technical camera terms. Here are some of the general questions you might ask about your wireless hidden camera:

• What is a Wireless Camera?
A wireless camera consists of a camera with a transmitter attached to it and a receiver which connects to a VCR or a TV.

• What is “Plug and Play”?
Plug and Play is the easy way to install your wireless surveillance camera system. Just connect the power supply (either AC for wall power or the battery pack) to your camera. Place the object containing the camera to show what you want to review. Connect the receiver to your TV or VCR using the red and yellow RCA cable from the receiver. You are now set up.

• What is a Transmitter?
A transmitter is a device that converts video signals into radio frequency signals and transmits them as radio waves.

• What is a Receiver?
A receiver is an electronic device that receives radio signals from a transmitter and decodes the signal for use as pictures on your VCR or TV.

• What is “Lux”?
Lux is a method of measuring a camera’s sensitivity to light, i. e. it is the amount of light the camera needs to provide an image. The lower the number, the less light the camera needs to reproduce a clear image. A Black and White camera usually has a lower lux than a color camera. It will hold an image longer than a color camera. For example, a B/W camera with a . 05 lux will be better in low light than a color camera with a . 5 lux.

• What is the meaning of “camera resolution” for security cameras? Camera resolution is a measure of the clearness of a security camera. It’s determined by the number of horizontal video lines that the camera must have to reproduce the correct image. The higher the resolution number, the sharper the image.
